EVIA Project to be part of new Mellon initiative in scholarly publishing

home news

The EVIA Digital Archive Project is a collaborative partner with three university presses in a new initiative from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. With a five-year grant from the Foundation, Indiana University Press will share $877,000 with Kent State University Press and Temple University Press towards the development and publishing of Ethnomusicology Multimedia (EM), a new scholarly book series. The EM series will comprise a number of innovative books in ethnomusicology that integrate vital audio-visual materials into the written text through the EVIA Digital Archive Project’s Web-based platform. The multidisciplinary nature of ethnomusicology has necessitated these novel developments in publishing technology, and by reaching across disciplines and experimenting with scholarly inquiry and methods of distribution, the three presses look forward to advancing scholarly communication everywhere. Cooperatively working on editing, production and marketing of the books in the series, the presses anticipate publication of the first books and launch of the Ethnomusicology Multimedia website in 2011.
